South Africa vs England: James Anderson in contention for second Test return
Alastair Cook said England have given themselves an opportunity to press home their advantage over South Africa in Cape Town after a crushing 241-run victory in the first Test.

This is only England’s second overseas Test win in 16 stretching back to that India series in 2012.
2 – This match is only the 2nd instance in Test cricket where England set a target of over 400 runs for South Africa.
This now marks the worst run in the modern history of the African nation – with the defeat marking their seventh loss in a row in all test matches (their worst run since re-admission in 1991).
Just two of South Africa’s players – AB de Villiers and Dean Elgar – average above 40.00 this year.
“We played really well from one to 11, there has been some stand-outs as well, everyone can feel in that dressing room really happy with the way they have gone about it”.
“Following our performance and injuries in the first Test, we have recognised the need to bolster the squad”, said Linda Zondi, Cricket South Africa’s convener of selectors.
“The bowlers mixed their pace and were relentless”.
JP Duminy (26no) punched Finn nicely down the ground to take South Africa’s total past 150 and together with Dane Piedt ensured the hosts got through the first hour of play, in which they lost 4-19. Having been disappointed with missing (De Villiers), he really knuckled down.
With the third ball of his next over, Ali struck again when Temba Bavuma skipped down the wicket to a ball which drifted past his bat to provide Jonny Bairstow with an easy stumping.
Bairstow calmly whipped off the bails to record England’s first stumping for 38 Tests, since Mumbai 2012.
England’s bowler Moeen Ali, top left, celebrates with teammates after taking a second wicket on the … “They just fell like dominoes afterwards”.
Kyle Abbot became Ali’s third victim before Chris Woakes finally took a deserved wicket in a match where his figures do not tell the story of his bowling.
It came when Stuart Broad, who had bowled superbly in the first innings, dismissed Morne Morkel lbw for eight.
It was enough to see Moeen earn the man-of-the-match award.
South Africa will hope the new year brings about a change in luck as they seek to put behind them a disappointing 2015 and get back to winning ways against England in the second test at Newlands starting on Saturday.
The Proteas scored 421 against the Windies in Cape Town in January but did not reach 250 again in 10 completed Test innings in 2015.
There was a word of warning from former England captain Geoffrey Boycott, though.
When asked about South Africa’s decline, Cook replied: “It’s not for me to talk about”.

“We tried to apply pressure in the last session and I charged in as hard as I could”.
