It is not yet known if people with Zika who do not have symptoms can transmit the virus to Texas mosquitoes.

They prefer, instead, that patients look and listen to the clinic’s message and avoid the risk.

Colombia has said it had about 16,500 suspected cases of Zika, though only a small fraction have been confirmed by laboratory tests.

Since 2014, cases of Zika virus, which is thought to be linked with severe birth defects, have been reported in various American countries, and the cases quickly increased in recent months. In 2007, Zika, which is spread to people via mosquito bites, has been making its way to the Americas.

The World Health Organization said Thursday that Zika is spreading fast and health officials have planned an emergency meeting for Monday.

The Zika virus was first discovered in Africa in 1947, but until a year ago, when it was found in Brazil, it had never been a threat in the Western Hemisphere.

The government of El Salvador has advised women to avoid getting pregnant until 2018.

The mosquito behind the Zika virus seems to operate like a heat-driven missile of disease.
