South, East brace for big storm, significant snowfall
“It’s still fairly early…(but) for the Peninsula, we’re not looking at any significant accumulations of snow”, he said.

Forecasters should have a better handle on that by Wednesday, he said. Rather, mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 17 degrees is expected Tuesday.
The current weather pattern is a favorable setup for winter weather here in the Mid-South. More than 100 inches of snow eventually fell over the course of the winter.
Although it’s still early, computer forecast models all see a windy, strong slow-moving storm hitting the Ohio Valley and the East Coast. “Somebody’s going to get walloped”, said Victor Gensini, a meteorology professor at College of DuPage outside of Chicago, which should be spared. Snow chances increase again on Friday as our next storm system nears the area.
Meteorologist Jeff Orrock, of the National Weather Service’s Wakefield, Virginia, office, said Friday morning may be “tricky”, as the snow may begin around daybreak. Traveling will be very risky Friday night through Saturday. A second and much stronger Winter storm moves in Thursday afternoon with a variety of mixed precipitation including rain, freezing rain and sleet as temperatures hover around the mid to upper 30s.
“Right now there’s a lot of models that are pointing to this big snowstorm for a good portion of the eastern USA”, said Otto, with the Weather Prediction Center in College Park, Maryland.

“The ultimate effects will depend upon the exact track of this system”, the National Weather Service said in a hazardous weather outlook for the state. Areas from Philadelphia south and east – including Ocean County – have the potential to change to rain for a time on Saturday which may lower accumulations.
