Amy Yang reacts after missing a putt on the 13th green during the..

The 20-year-old South Korean stormed from behind, posting birdies on four of the last seven holes to rally for an unlikely one-stroke victory Sunday in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Yang, at eight-under 202, and Lewis, at 205, will be paired again Sunday. Lewis was at 5-under 205. She finished with a 70 and into a tie for fifth at 3-under 277 along with Morgan Pressel (68), Brooke Henderson (66), Pernilla Lindberg (67), So Yeon Ryu (67) and Jane Park (68).

Inbee Park, a two-time U.S. Open victor with titles in 2008 and 2013, played 22 holes Friday.

Champions Tour: Jerry Smith shot a 2-under 70 to win the Encompass Championship for his first title on the Champions Tour. She settled for a 6-under 64 and is 2 under.

She will, however, have to hold off some serious pursuers, including persistent American Stacy Lewis. She finished second in 2012, tied for fifth in 2010. My translation: “Amy Yang, you are the woman”. She had a share of the lead going into the final round past year, only to pull in fourth.

But the 40-year-old was still by far the best of the half dozen Australians in the field at Lancaster Country Club. Lewis was three back at the start of the round. But I learned another great lesson here.

“This was my first time playing in a US Women’s Open, so I tried to enjoy every moment“.

She moved into the lead with a birdie at 16 as Yang and Lewis struggled. “So all I did was enjoy the new stuff ..” “So this is an adventure to me. “So (Sunday) it’s going to be the same thing”.

“I had a birdie opportunity on the 15th on all four days, and I was feeling great playing that hole today, too”, she said.

The hilly course in the heart of Amish country is taking its toll on the hobbled Wie. It’s a little bit disappointing. On flat lies, it’s okay. “She’s got elephant ears”, said Herden. She added another birdie at the 17th to stretch her lead to two strokes.

But she bogeyed the 18th and fell a stroke short.

“It was a long day today, ” Wie acknowledged. “I’m glad to be done..” “And this year I’ve played really well in them”. I know what to expect, nothing is unexpected.

“I just feel like its coming together.

There was a hole-in-one Saturday. And his links game looks in good shape ahead of next week’s British Open at St. Andrews.

PGA Tour: Jordan Spieth made it a lot tougher on himself than it needed to be. Zach Johnson and Danny Lee tied for third at 19 under.

The round was suspended for close to three hours because of two weather-related delays.

Spieth’s low point was a bogey on the par-4 11th hole after a putt from the fringe went left. By the seventeenth hole, she dropped to five under Sunday, nine under overall.

Spieth also made six birdies. “So I thought I had a good chance to save par”.

“It’s a very traditional northeast style golf course, so it’s definitely what I’m used to, growing up around here”, Alex said.

But as if to prove it wasn’t a fluke, Spieth sent his final tee shot of the round into the trees as well – and still picked up a birdie. “I’m just not thinking so much about anything like that out there”.

“That’s what you want”, Lewis said. Just keep on trekking. “And I sleep really well”. Last year, she almost won the LPGA’s KEB-Hana Bank Championship before losing in a playoff to fellow Korean professional Q Baek. She won the Standard Register Turquoise Classic in 1988, the first Korean to win an LPGA event, but the triumph was lost in the shadow of the Seoul Olympics.

“I made birdie a lot, so my putting was good”, Choi said.
