South Korea Warns That North Korea Is ‘Ready’ For Another Nuclear Test
The United Nations Security Council is planning fresh sanctions on the nation after it staged its fifth nuclear weapons test Friday.

Yonhap news agency, citing unidentified Seoul government sources, reported Monday there were signs the North had finished test preparations in an unused tunnel.
Since North Korea’s most recent defiance that its nuclear activities come with a good objective, the United States of America today expressed its conviction that it will not accept that the communist country will become a nuclear state.
South Korea does not have nuclear weapons and relies on the U.S.
OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea (AP) – The United States on Tuesday sent two nuclear-capable supersonic bombers streaking over ally South Korea in a show of force meant to cow North Korea after its recent nuclear test and also to settle rattled nerves in the South.
The UN Security Council denounced North Korea’s decision to carry out the test and said it would begin work immediately on a resolution.
President Park said Pyongyang has taken the path to advance its nuclear program, neglecting the worldwide community’s opposition and condemnation, and leaving Seoul with no other option than to press the North with stronger sanctions to change its strategic calculation.
Nations around the world, including the United States, condemned North Korea for taking such actions, but clearly they are not anxious about any retaliation. The United States, Britain and France pushed for the 15-member body to impose new sanctions.
Speaking to Lavrov on Monday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China “strongly urged North Korea and other relevant parties to remain calm and exercise restraint, and not take any new steps to intensify tensions”, China’s Foreign Ministry said.
Though there has been no real threat of World War 3, there has been something of a battle in the region as the United States, China, Russia, and North Korea have all been building up their military presence in the area, CNN noted.
Critics, however, say China hasn’t done enough to tighten economic pressure on North Korea as punishment for its nuclear tests, which the Chinese government has publicly opposed.
The report said the government has confirmed 133 people were killed and another 395 missing.
China prefers “diplomatic engagement with Pyongyang that results in a peace treaty and an eventual decision by the DPRK to give up its nuclear weapons in exchange for economic assistance and USA diplomatic recognition”, she said. This test, on the 68th anniversary of the nation’s founding, was its most powerful to date, a South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman said, according to Agence France-Presse.
The chairwoman said close relations with China, South Korea’s largest trading partner, can help save people’s livelihood economically, according to local media reports.
