The half ended 2-0 in favour of Liverpool. An absolutely incredible performance from the Saints in the second half.
First, Philippe Coutinho exposed the space left behind Saints right-back Cuco Martina in the 17th minute, surging forward before cutting inside and curling a right foot shot inside the far post.
Pelle then volleyed over the crossbar after a quick one-two with Steven Davis, with Long’s shot blocked by Lovren shortly after as Southampton pushed hard for the opener.
Allen thought he had made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute when he fired home after a corner, only for the referee Roger East to disallow the effort for offside.
With just four minutes remaining, Mane drilled home a dramatic victor after capitalising on some hesitant defending by Mignolet and Skrtel.
With Roberto Firmino injured, Klopp turned to high-potential young striker Divock Origi in his attack, with the Belgian joining Daniel Sturridge up front in a 4-4-2 formation.
Southampton’s Saido Mane celebrates scoring their third goal.
Southampton continued to press and were level in the 83rd minute when Pelle beat Mignolet with a superb 20 yard drive. They were not in the same shape in the second half and we had to finish the game. The last 10 minutes was all Southampton.
– Coutinho has scored more goals in all competitions for Liverpool in 2015-16 than in any other previous campaign [9].
