He said: “Leicester have had a great start to the season with a great experienced manger in Ranieri”.

Claudio Ranieri: “I spoke to them (Southampton)”.

“I could say “you stay here” or “you go”, but no. I want only happy players, that is my philosophy”. “If we continue with that then, I will be happy, but I would be really happy if we could do it and our opponents don’t score”.

Southampton are without Shane Long for the next two-to-four weeks after the striker picked up an ankle problem in the Republic of Ireland’s clash with Poland.

“I appreciate that very much but I understand, it’s hard always., If he does it differently (to my request), I have to respect that, but in the case of Ryan I was very pleased that he didn’t play the second match”.

Midfielder Jordy Clasie, however, seems in line for his Barclays Premier League debut, having been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury in July’s Europa League victory over Vitesse Arnhem, although Koeman may not risk him from the start.

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has confirmed at a press conference covered by the club’s official Twitter account that Riyad Mahrez and Jeffrey Schlupp both sat out training on Thursday morning.

Speaking before Saturday’s trip to Southampton, Ranieri said: “I was interested, but after that there was also the Greece job – and I made a mistake”.

“It was important that it was the right moment – and it (Southampton) wasn’t the right moment for me”.

“Our project is very, very good”.

– Jamie Vardy has scored in each of his last five Premier League matches.

– Leicester has won six points from losing positions this season, more than any other top-flight side.
