Southgate knows Rashford wont be with U21s for long

That is the opinion of England U21 head coach Gareth Southgate who is set to play the Manchester United forward up front against Norway in their Euro2017 qualifier at Colchester on Tuesday night.

England Under-21 boss Gareth Southgate believes fearless Marcus Rashford has the right mentality to potentially emulate some of the country’s biggest worldwide stars.

Rashford, a rare shining light for the Three Lions at Euro 2016, opened his account for the season when scoring late on against Hull City last weekend, but had already been chosen for Under-21s action. He was then selected for the Euro 2016 squad and made two substitute appearances, but has missed out on new manager Sam Allardyce’s first squad for the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on Sunday.

“We will always review things before each month, so it is not easy to be precise about what will happen”, he said. “His mentality has been excellent”.

“This is the first time that we have had the opportunity to work with him (Rashford)”.

Wright said: “I think it’s brilliant what he’s doing: he’s not saying too much, he wants to play, he comes on, he scores a goal, he’s forcing the issue for Jose Mourinho”.

With young talent such as Dele Ali and Eric Dier making the jump up to the senior squad quickly as they did it should only be a matter of time before Rashford follows in their footsteps.
