“The reinvented and modernized experience will bring the Charlotte community together in a way that hasn’t been done before”, the mall said, according to the paper.

Simon Property Group unveiled a new Santa photo backdrop this week at its Roosevelt Field mall in Garden City, drawing criticism online and mixed reactions from shoppers expecting the traditional holiday decorations.
Management at Roosevelt Field mall provided this photo showing the addition of Christmas trees to their “Glacier” Santa display.
That idea got a cold reception on social media. On Twitter, hashtags like #glaciergate and #BringBackTheTree started trending.
“Key elements are still being added to the Glacier experience at Roosevelt Field over the coming week – and after hearing early customer feedback, one of those elements will be a traditional Christmas tree alongside the Glacier experience”.
A Change.Org petition has been setup to bring the Christmas tree back to SouthPark Mall.
Objections to the glacier have already surfaced.
A North Carolina mall is making a few changes this Christmas season.

The mall previously announced that when children visit Santa Claus at SouthPark this year, they’d be doing it under a faux glacier, rather than a Christmas tree. This new experience will delight our shoppers and their families with fun and interactive elements, including a sound and light show every 30 minutes.
