Sox Win Rain Shortened Finale With O’s
A night after hitting two home runs, Mookie Betts scored ahead of both Bradley and Leon.

ROYALS 6, TIGERS 1: In Detroit, Danny Duffy allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings and Kansas City hit four homers.
Boston Red Sox’s Mookie Betts, right, celebrates his two-run home run with David Ortiz, left, during the eighth inning of a baseball game against the Baltimore Orioles, Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2016, in Baltimore.
The Baltimore Orioles appeared to be on the brink of another exciting late-inning comeback on Tuesday night, but there’s this guy named Mookie Betts who simply can not be contained at Camden Yards.
After two big wins, though, the Sox have caught up in the season series, and now left them one step behind, at least for today. Buchholz was limited to around 70 pitches against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday and was charged with three runs on three hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings.
“I’m sure there are some numbers to dictate that it’s more us”, manager Buck Showalter said, “but he’s been having that type of year against most everybody”.
“We didn’t pitch particularly well in certain spots”, Showalter conceded. Detroit are 2-7 in their last 9 overall and are 2-7 in their last 9 games on grass while the over is 9-4-1 in their last 14 Thursday games.
Tuesday night marked Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley’s first game back in Philadelphia since the Phillies traded him to the Dodgers in August 2015.
“It’s so close, the separation between the teams, and it’s going to be all the way down the stretch”. “The important part is to keep going”.
Price got plenty of support Wednesday night.
Scott Feldman (6-4) replaced ineffective starter Marco Estrada after a rain delay and struck out five in three innings of one-run relief. Some we did. You have to be on top of your game pitching-wise and we haven’t been swinging the bats well, and I think a lot of it had to do, compound that with seeing two good pitchers. “It was just one of those nights, I guess”, Bundy said. Betts then crushed his two-out, three-run homer to left on the first pitch from Gallardo, giving the Red Sox a 3-0 lead. Leon completely tore the cover off the ball, pulling the ball for his sixth home run of the season. “We’re going to get in very early in the morning and have to play a game at 1 o’clock”. This time, though, it came noticeably after Bundy had taken a tumble off the mound trying to field a weak ground ball from David Ortiz, bringing out the trainers. He declared himself OK after taking a few warmup pitches, and play resumed with two outs and the bases empty.
Farrell picked up his 313th win as Red Sox manager, moving past Ralph Houk for sole possession of ninth place in club history. The Red Sox needed something positive to happen again, after starter Eduardo Rodriguez left the game with an injury and the bullpen allowed the Orioles to tie the game. “At this point, we’re planning on him starting on Sunday”, Farrell said.
NOTES: RHP Chris Tillman will officially start on Saturday versus Houston. OF Joey Rickard (thumb ligament) will be in a splint for 2-3 more weeks before starting baseball activities.
The Red Sox will now face the Detroit Tigers at 1:10 EST on Thursday.
BALTIMORE – Mookie Betts homered twice and drove in five runs, helping the resurgent Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-3 Tuesday night for their fifth straight victory.
