Space Station soars over Houston

The global Space Station is the largest human-built object in space and can rival Venus in brightness in the night sky, but only if you know when and where to look.

When the space station soared between the moon and Earth at around 5 miles per second (8 kilometers per second) Sunday night (Aug. 2), NASA photographer Bill Ingalls was in position to capture the sight from Woodford, Virginia.

The NASA astronaut has taken to Twitter to share photos and answer questions from space fans with the hashtag #YearInSpace.

A Houston company has negotiated a historic agreement to fly a Chinese experiment on the worldwide Space Station, a small but symbolic maneuver around a law that bans any scientific cooperation between NASA and the communist country.

The space station has been continuously occupied since November, 2000.

Kelly also disclosed that he does not use Facetime on the ISS but uses another video messaging software to stay in touch with his family and friends on Earth.
