Several people have been injured, one seriously, following a shooting at a hotel on La Rambla in Barcelona.

A Spanish police official said the pair were standing outside Hotel Silken when the attacker arrived and opened fire on them, wounding one.

The shooting was allegedly preceded by an attempted robbery of a foreign tourist, El Mundo paper reported.

The incident occurred where the city’s tourist-popular boulevard, La Rambla, intersects Pintor Fortuny street. La Vanguardia reported that some witnesses said there was a commotion inside the hotel and others point to a possible kidnap attempt, though that claim could not be verified.

La Vanguardia reports one of the suspects was killed in the police operation.

The regional Mosses d’Esquadra police force are yet to make an official statement.
