Smoky skies from wildfires across Montana are creating reduced or even hazardous air quality in some areas.

The alert was in effect until 4 p.m. Saturday.

The alert says “active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease should avoid prolong outdoor exertion; everyone else, especially children should limit outdoor exertion”.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management has declared Saturday, August 15, an air quality action day for St. Joseph and Elkhart counties. But air quality is still considered unhealthy for sensitive groups in Libby, the Flathead Valley, Seeley Lake, Frenchtown, Great Falls, Billings, Sidney and Birney.

Some of the smoke, according to Schmitt, is coming from the Wildhorse Point Fire, burning south of Huson.

The rain we’re expecting today should improve air quality.

If you are sensitive to air pollution or have breathing or circulation problems, moderate air quality might affect you.
