Spartans complete comeback, win Big Ten Championship

The Big Ten champion Spartans completed last season on New Year’s Day playing in their first Cotton Bowl.
With a Big Ten East Division title already in tow, the Spartans took to the postgame podium on the confetti-strewn turf and checked another box on this season’s to-do list.
And now this is the team that went on a 22-play, 82-yard, nine-minute drive to soak up nearly all the time remaining in the Big Ten title game, getting a go-ahead touchdown on an LJ Scott stretch with 27 seconds left to play.
“We wanted to come back and win a championship”, Cook said. About two-thirds of the Big Ten title game record crowd of 66,985, clad in Iowa black and gold, went home with heartache.
Dantonio has presaged his team’s events before.
The lopsided victory at MI against a team inspired in its first year under coach Jim Harbaugh provided, as Perry said, the best thing on the OSU resume. But this time they weren’t talking about the Rose Bowl.
The tweet was quickly deleted following Iowa’s loss and later replaced with an apologetic one that blamed the mistake on a “staff error”.
The final College Football Playoff Rankings were announced Sunday afternoon, and the Big Ten will be represented by Michigan State in the playoff. L.J. Scott fought five Iowa Hawkeyes from the Iowa 1-yard-line. “We’ve done that all year”, center Jack Allen said.
Let’s just say the Notre Dame coach was never described as gaunt.
Clearly, Dantonio is not actually a soothsayer. “They talk about a whole bunch of other stuff, but definitely what they saw (in the Ohio State win over Michigan) is what they’re going to get”. There was Rutgers inexplicably spiking the ball on fourth down. This is the team that took a fumbled punt back for a walk-off touchdown at the Big House.
The programs meet again in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Eve, this time with a national championship berth on the line.
In the end, the only real debate was how to rank the top four teams.
The Spartans (9-0) are atop the poll for the first time since early in the 2013-14 season.
Most of the players said they looked forward to having a chance to end on a high note. That may sound dubious to some, but when weird things happen, explanations from above are often sought.
He said he knew the talented freshman would be special.
Maybe there’s a simpler explanation.
Coach Mark Dantonio turned the Spartans into the national power that has won 11 games in five of the last six seasons, beaten seven top-10 teams in eight tries and has finished in the top five in the nation two consecutive years. “Championship football teams do that”. “We can play it out”.
“Everyone else might have doubted us, but we didn’t doubt ourselves”. “Any opportunity we get, we’re just going to go out there and play our hearts out”.
Scott’s effort literally reached the Spartans into the playoffs, and what started as a motto for the season has become so much more.
Michigan State finally tied it on Geiger’s 29-yard field goal late in the third quarter and then regained the lead on a 47-yard field goal in the final minute of the third quarter.

Defensive lineman Demetrius Cooper: “Either way we have to go out there and ball”. “Do what we do”. “Like Coach D’s motto, we’re just going to keep reaching higher”.
