Wednesday will mark the fourth time the Huskers and Spartans have met at the conference tournament since the Huskers joined the Big Ten prior to the 2012 season.

Last year, the Spartans were trailing 7-3 in the eighth inning when Ryan Krill hit a grand slam as part of a six-run rally that eliminated the Husker from the Big Ten baseball tournament in Minneapolis. After dropping the series to the Huskers, the Spartans ended the year with a series loss at Iowa and a series loss at home to Maryland.

“Payback’s due”, said senior third baseman Justin Hovis. Hovis, who is one of two current roster members who played in that game, remembers it well.

“We’ve been struggling offensively, so we talked about coming into this game with good approaches and being aggressive to try and put pressure on them”, said Young. Expect a crowd between 9-12,000 fans at the mid afternoon contests. “I know our guys feel like if we play well we can win this thing”. “We got to start with the first game”.

“The story, in my opinion, is that Cam Vieaux was lights out today”, said head coach Jake Boss Jr. He threw that game in Omaha – a 3-2 loss – and is well-aware of his own 0-3 career record against that school from Lincoln.

“I think it will draw an even bigger crowd”, said Jill Mcdermott.

Bruder led the Wolverines with 52 RBIs during the regular season and had 19 multi-hit games this season and started every game in center field for MI.

There is great parody in the Big Ten this year, meaning any of the eight teams have a legitimate shot at the title. 383 with seven home runs and 36 RBIs for the top-seeded Gophers, but he’s just the first name that comes up on the stat sheet.

Iowa baseball coach Rick Heller.

“We’ve had to pick ourselves up off the mat a couple of times during the season because of a tough weekend”, Lemonis said. “Being able to get a big hit from somebody out there is pretty big for us”.
