“Now that the weather has become more seasonable, hunting conditions should be more favorable”.
That represents an increase of 2 percent from the harvest at the same point previous year.
Application willl be processed on a first-come, first-served basis with hunters being allowed to apply for up to two additional doe tags. Deer hunting alone contributes more than $100 million ($101,419,052).
Both hunts are the subject of heavy hunting permit cuts this year. Maine’s deer population has rebounded from the severe winters of 2008 and 2009, a population that stands at approximately 210,000, up from approximately 146,000 after the 2009 winter. The reduction in any-deer permits will result in more breeding female deer remaining in the population, allowing the population to rebound more quickly. Hunting licenses can be purchased online, from license agents statewide, or at the Fish and Game Department in Concord.
The deer and moose hunts are ramping up as the bear hunt is winding down.
Maine’s deer season is divided into several seasons.

The increasingly popular muzzleloader season runs from October 31 to November 10. Last year, hunters needed to wait two days to hunt if they bought a deer license after a season opened. The regular archery season extends from October 1-Oct. 30, with an expanded archery season open in select areas from September 12 to December 12.
