SPECTRE has also set new records in the Netherlands, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden.

Spectre managed to surpass Skyfall, the previous Bond film, in the opening week at the box office.

SPECTRE, Daniel Craig’s fourth film as James Bond, has taken £52 million from six countries – and has yet to be released in the US.

According to industry analysts, the film is projected to make $85 million to $90 million for its North America opening this weekend.

The Mexican government is under fresh fire after it was revealed to have paid the makers of James Bond $AU28 million to portray Mexico City in a flattering light.

Apple Insider cites internal Sony communications as the source of the rejection by the two because using those phones would tarnish James Bond’s suave image. In addition, it is also projected to earn as much as $80 million.

The Japanese company would have paid $4 million for a placement fee directly to Barbara, while Ben Whishaw would have taken $1 million.

The box office receipts will be warmly welcomed by distributors MGM and Columbia, and can go a few way to repaying the reported £200 million ($303 million) budget, including a few £22 million ($34 million) of wrecked cars. A similar $5 million offer was allegedly made by Samsung, part of the $50-million marketing and promotional package offer from the South Korean tech giant which initially was $18 million.

“This record-breaking support from Britain audiences for what is our 24th outing is nothing short of incredible”.

More importantly for the rest of us, it means “Spectre” might be worth your pennies.
