Trailers have shown action-packed scenes typical of Bond movies as 007 uncovers the shady Spectre organisation, and its dark link to villain Franz Oberhauser, played by Oscar victor Christoph Waltz. It’s set to open in more than 3,600 cinemas in America alone this week. And IMAX records have also fallen to its mighty rampage, as the film became the first to ever top a $100,000 per-location average, displacing Transformers: Dark Of The Moon.
In its opening few hours on Monday, the movie managed to bring in a whopping $6.4 million, across 647 cinemas, which was pretty impressive seeing as the movie opened for screenings at 8:15pm – 15 minutes after the London premiere. Craig, who might be in his previous year of playing James Bond on film, and Spectre director Sam Mendez were apparently not too keen on using an Xperia smartphone this time because the film hero only uses “the best” technology.
“We set the record for smashing up cars on Spectre”, Gary Powell, the film’s chief stunt coordinator, told the Mail on Sunday.
In response to the #1 United Kingdom opening, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said, “We’re so grateful to all our James Bond fans and the British public for making Spectre’s debut in the United Kingdom box office history!”
“What an incredible thrill it is for us at MGM to see how James Bond continues to deliver such excitement to his fans”.
“Because it’s an iconic movie, known all around the world, it’s nice to see this enthusiasm and to see that (the movie) touches, in a way, all cultures and all generations”, the French actress said.
We all knew Spectre was going to open big at the box office.
Ralph Fiennes, Monica Belluci, Dave Bautista, Andrew Scott, Ben Whishaw, Rory Kinnear and Naomi Harris complete the star-studded ensemble.
