The box office receipts will be warmly welcomed by distributors MGM and Columbia, and can go a few way to repaying the reported £200 million ($303 million) budget, including a few £22 million ($34 million) of wrecked cars.

SPECTRE, the 24th entry in the long-running James Bond series, is now the U.K.’s biggest cinematic opening of all time, MGM Studios and Sony Pictures announced Sunday. In the Netherlands, the movie took in €3.3MM ($3.7MM USD), surpassing the record set by Skyfall and bringing its cume to $3.9 million including previews. It’s also setting records for its IMAX earnings as well.

Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement released to MailOnline: ‘We’re so grateful to all our James Bond fans and the British public for making Spectre’s debut in the United Kingdom box office history!’ A similar $5 million offer was allegedly made by Samsung, part of the $50-million marketing and promotional package offer from the South Korean tech giant which initially was $18 million.

Besides Craig, Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny) and Ben Whishaw (Q) revisit the franchise, while newcomers include Monica Bellucci, Léa Seydoux, Dave Bautista and double Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz, who plays villain Franz Oberhauser.

Spectre is expected to make a similar earning in the US.
