Spectre stunt wins Guinness World Records title

When Skyfall came out in 2012, it gave the James Bond franchise a 21st century upgrade, focusing on modern issues and distancing itself from the goofiness that defined the brand in the more recent films. At the same time, the newly appointed C (“Sherlock’s” Andrew Scott) is looking to make M (very traditionally assumed by Ralph Fiennes), Bond and the whole Double-0 section obsolete with a technologically advanced security monitoring system. The special effects team for Spectre was awarded a Guinness World Record this week for the largest stunt explosion in cinematic history.

The scene was filmed in Erfoud, Morocco back in June, using 8418 litres of fuel and 33kg of explosives. This being a Bond movie he and this network are not what they intitally appear to be. Being an original script, rather than an adaption of one of Ian Flemming’s novels, opened up the film to make itself relevant to the modern audience, and I believe it’s one that paid off. In the past, the franchise has recorded the longest speedboat jump in a film, highest ski base jump and highest bungee jump.

Daniel Craig perfectly embodies Bond’s character by combining the suave and sleek personality with just the right amount of witty humor.

Spectre stars Daniel Craig and Lea Seydoux, along with producer Barbara Broccoli, were presented with an official certificate on Monday. Not only that, nearly a third of that budget – $29 million, to be precise – was made up from those lucrative product placement deals. However, that’s not to say that “Spectre” isn’t doing well because with its weekend earnings hitting $296.1 million, its far from being a flop. The studio is close to earning it back, making $294.9 million worldwide, as of November 9.

Bruce Hall: It really would have been hard to match the atmosphere surrounding Skyfall, particularly with that film having been nearly universally praised when it was first released. He always fights the bad guys and wins.

The latest installment, “Spectre”, seems to have ended the story line for Craig as the end shows Bond ready to start anew with his new lady, Madeline Swann (Léa Seydoux). He did not confirm that he was done but rumors surfaced again after his latest comments.

Since all of Bond films share a continuing storyline, this should be the most stirring moment in the Craig era.
