Speed boat crash in Massachusetts leaves 1 dead, 1 critical

A ME man is in critical condition at a Rhode Island hospital after a fatal crash involving three boats Saturday on a pond in Taunton, Massachusetts, according to a report from WCSH6-TV. At approximately 1 p.m., the three racing boats crashed after one of the vessels spun out and collided with another, which then collided with another.

One man was killed and several others were injured during a boat crash that occurred during a race at the Bill Giles Memorial Regatta in Taunton on Saturday, according to The Boston Globe.

Another Maine man, 72, suffered minor injuries. The second boat, operated by the deceased man, collided with the first. A second boater, a 67-year-old man from ME, was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital in critical condition, and a 72-year-old ME man was treated for minor injuries. He said all three drivers were thrown from their boats.

First responders were already at the pond for the race and were able to remove the three victims from the water within minutes. The driver of one of the boats was declared dead on scene.

The DA’s office said no foul play is suspected, and the investigation is ongoing.
