Around 10 a.m., 21 college-aged students entered the cave on a guided tour, said Kerry McDaniel, Hart County emergency management director.

As many as 19 people had to be rescued Wednesday from a Kentucky cave after heavy rains in the area caused severe flash flooding.

Some people traveled inside the cave as far as four miles, but emergency crews found the people inside the system.

McDaniel says there is only one way in and out of the Hidden River Cave in south-central Kentucky.

He said authorities have not been in communication with the trapped people and are unsure where they are in the cave.

Rescue teams, including members of a dive squad, were called to help, Horse Cave Fire Chief Donnie Parker said. He didn’t have details about how they got out. No injuries were reported.
