Spielman: Vikings Not “Honed In” on WR

Treadwell doesn’t turn 21 until this summer, and at 6-foot-2, he adds the size the Vikings desperately needed in their receiver group.

“I’m sure I’ll get a receiver question here, but we are not honed in on a receiver in the first round”, GM Rick Spielman said Tuesday.

In his latest mock draft, NFL Media’s Daniel Jeremiah has MS wideout Laquon Treadwell pegged to Minnesota with the No. 23 overall pick, a match that makes plenty of sense for the Vikings.

For some draft experts, it seems like quantity instead of quality is the approach to mock drafts. He was initially regarded as a top-15 prospect, but likely slipped in the draft after running the 40-yard dash in a so-so 4.63 seconds March 28 at his pro day. They now have a guy who can’t run, but who definitely can catch. They also took a wide receiver in the first round in 2013, when Cordarrelle Patterson was the pick at No. 29.

“I won’t give you how they were rated, but I know we thought very highly of him”, Spielman said.

MS receiver Laquon Treadwell is the 23rd pick in the draft, and the third straight receiver selected. Wide receiver is still a real possibility for the Vikes at pick No. 23.
