Jordan Spieth, the world’s No. 1 golfer, enjoyed dinner with friends in Pebble Beach’s famed Tap Room, just a few yards behind the course’s first tee.

Masters green jacket. U.S. Open win. “If you’re going to say “Big Three”… you’re using a term for three of the greatest five or six players of all time”. “It’s incredible what a solid week back here of kind of rest and regeneration will do”. “I feel good physically and I feel good mentally”. “If we’re starting to add up who owes who, I owe Kite and Wadkins and a lot of captains”. Two very easy places to travel to, great hospitality. “A little exhausted in between the two events, and since then I’ve really regenerated and feel 100 percent”.

“This week is so unique and it’s so much fun”.

The pro-am format, where three courses, Pebble Beach, Spyglass Hill and Monterey Peninsula Country Club, are used in rotation over the first three days before returning to the host course of Pebble Beach Golf Links, brings together an eclectic mix of sporting and business celebrities along with the game’s best.

“I don’t know, but it’s February”, he said.

The golf course that Robert Louis Stevenson described as “the most felicitous meeting of land and sea” is magnificent under warm sunshine and a blue sky, so it was not a waste of anyone’s time, even for a practice round. This was a tournament where I received an exemption four years ago when I didn’t have any status anywhere.

Day had his best year as a professional last year and was second to Spieth in terms of accomplishments.

He just won on poa greens (at the Farmers Insurance Open) and in very windy conditions, so he is playing well.

“It was a pretty bad bug”, he said. “It kind of went through our whole family, which was no good”, said the Australian.

One of the perks of getting a bag deal with AT&T (the first since Tiger Woods, by the way) is that you get your own bobblehead.

“He (Alfonso) told me he was gonna make me do it”, McGirt quipped to The Robesonian. “He does all he can to get noticed like the world’s no. 1 player, but ultimately knows that he’ll never be on Jordan’s level”. And it certainly shouldn’t be a big deal that when recognized after sitting down, he didn’t scoff at being approached, but instead smiled and blurted, “Can you believe I haven’t been here before?”

“I’m hoping for a good week this week to be back amongst it all”. “Give me some odds, ” he said to caddie Michael Greller. “I think everyone does it on the golf course”. We’re talking holing shots.

If conditions are wet, his considerable driving distance could come into play. So I’m excited about that. You always hope to catch it on the right day.

Should he do so, he will be eligible to take up further starts and try to match the points earned by those who make the playoffs this year.
