Real Madrid have won the Champions League in two of the last three seasons, including in 2015-16 as they overcome capital rivals Atletico Madrid in the final once again. Top-scoring and winning the competition last season he showed he has lost none of the ability on the pitch. We will try to do everything to win it.

Confident that it already has what it takes to repeat as champion, Madrid bypassed high-profile signings after clinching its 11th European trophy past year, limiting its moves to players not in the starting lineup entering the new season. “I want to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League and go to the World Cup with Portugal”.

Ronaldo made his comeback from two months out with knee ligament damage suffered in Portugal’s Euro 2016 final success over France and scored in a 5-2 rout of Osasuna on Saturday.

And the star forward feels the team, coached by Zinedine Zidane, can progress to the latter stages yet again. The road to Cardiff begins on Wednesday night at home to Sporting Club, and the Portuguese giants know just how big a challenge awaits them.

As ever Ronaldo didn’t make a quiet return to action as he become embroiled in a war of words with Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez post-match. He is ready to play 90 minutes.

Xavi, who now plays for Al Sadd in Qatar, told Spanish radio station La SER earlier this week that despite his achievements Ronaldo couldn’t come close to matching those of Xavi’s former Barca teammate Lionel Messi.

“People always want to talk about Cristiano”, said the Brazilian.

What was different was Ronaldo’s willingness to come off with the game well won just after the hour mark. Xavi has won everything, the World Cup, European Championship. and he has never won the Ballon d’Or.

The squad again will be led by the likes of Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo.
