Spotify Announces New ‘Behind the Lyrics’ Playlists With Fun Facts, Annotations, More
Spotify and Genius are teaming up to bring something very awesome for music fanatics like myself.

The first playlist focuses on the lyrics of 50 hip hop and R&B songs, such as Yo Gotti’s “Down In The DM”, Chance The Rapper’s “Somewhere In Paradise”, A$AP Ferg’s “New Level” and Pusha T‘s “M.P.A”. The tracks in each playlist come with annotated lyrics.
The partnership is also a plus for the Brooklyn-based startup, looking to engage more users with the new lyrical feature, which will be available for all Spotify iPhone users (except iPhone 4 and 4s users) on January 12. We’ll keep our eyes (and ears) open for word on its Android launch, though, so stay tuned. Now partnered with Spotify, Genius will be bringing you lyrics and analyses of songs as you listen to them.
Unlike the Genius website, users do not have to click through each lyric. Spotify will add Genius content to additional tracks going forward. The playlist includes artists like Pusha T, Diplo and Tinashe. “I have always been a person that dissects music and studies it. I was a sample spotter and I learned how to make music by listening to it. Genius and Spotify are working together to break down music to the bare bones and get deeper into its true core”. Information, the report notes, will soon pop up inside of select songs inside the iPhone application, allowing listeners to read some background on their favorite track while listening to the piece.

Since the advent of streaming services like Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) Apple Music, it seems that Spotify has been fighting a battle to maintain its reputation against other services, including Pandora, Jay Z’s Tidal service, Google Play Music, and more.
