Spotify is retaliating against artists with Apple Music exclusives

Those artists have also found their songs buried in the search rankings of Spotify, the world’s largest music-streaming service, the people said.

Competitors Apple, Google and Amazon have a significant advantage over Spotify however, Apple has its hardware division, Google generates vast sums of revenue from advertising and Amazon is built upon a flourishing e-commerce.

But now, Amazon wants you to ditch Spotify, Apple Music, even Pandora, in favor of its upcoming new music streaming service that will only cost $5 a month.

Apple and Tidal are battling over exclusive content from big-name artists to attract more users to their services. For them, exclusives will only frustrate consumers and can lead to market fragmentation.

For example, Frank Ocean’s “Blonde“, -which was released on his own after finishing up a contract with Universal Music Group- is expected to remain exclusive on Apple Music for another week or two.

Spotify, however, tells Recode that the charges are “unequivocally false”.

At least, that’s according to Bloomberg, which indicates that Spotify is extracting digital revenge on artists who grant exclusives to competing streaming services.

Several months ago, former artist manager Troy Carter was brought on to an executive role at Spotify.

Spotify has always been against exclusives in the music industry, but ultimately hasn’t been able to do much about big deals from Apple Music and Tidal. What’s particularly concerning is that exclusive deals can be used to finance albums, which means such policies can disproportionately impact up-and-coming musicians with respect to established artists that can more or less afford to do what they want.

Apple Music also has ways to promote artists, such as highlighting their songs in its Top Tracks section, giving it ways to play favorites with musicians.

It also offers the best user experience compared to other streaming services.

Streaming has, for many people, become the go-to method of hearing new music.

But who should we blame for it? How we consume music has changed forever. The company is reportedly making the songs by those artists harder to find.
