Spotted: Chelsea handed huge boost as star gives encouraging injury update

Amelia was part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning squad, and has been tipped to be recruited to provide cover for Begovic with first choice Thibaut Courtois missing until at least December after knee surgery.

The former AC Milan keeper is a free agent and Jose Mourinho is keen to sign him as a back up to Asmir Begovic.

Despite the Bosnia and Herzegovina global impressing in Courtois’ absence, Mourinho is believed to be concerned he could be left short should Begovic suffer an injury or a suspension – with 21-year-old Jamal Blackman his only other alternative in goal.

“We need a goalkeeper now, not in January”, the Portuguese said.

He went on to play for the amateur club Rocca Priora and had a spell at Perugia in Serie B but was released at the end of the campaign and is yet to find a new club.

“Helton has a contract with Porto and will only be available in January”.

Chelsea have spaces in their Premier League squad so they can apply to add a free agent to the list. “By then, Courtois will be available again”.

Arsenal were previously linked with a move for Amelia in the summer, but their interest reportedly waned when David Ospina opted to stay at the Emirates following Petr Cech’s arrival from Stamford Bridge.
