Spray away your child’s winter blues with free flu vaccine
In addition to getting vaccinated, people can prevent the spread of viruses by washing their hands, covering their mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing and staying home when they are sick.

The North East was one of the pilot areas for the childhood flu vaccine which has now been rolled out across the country, making this the largest school-based vaccination programme in England involving children in 17,000 schools.
The major drive starts with the national flu vaccination programme, which this year aims to protect more than three million 2-4 year olds; 2.1 million more children than last year.
With the winter months fast approaching, the free flu jab is the best way to project against the flu virus in the run up to Christmas which can have a serious impact on people especially the elderly, pregnant woman or very young children.
“You’re more likely to become seriously ill and have complications like pneumonia or make an existing condition worse if you catch it. This may result in an unwanted hospital stay and can even be fatal”.

As well as protecting against flu, the NHS Stay Well this Winter campaign will give advice on how to avoid common illness to people over 65 or those with long-term health conditions, such as diabetes, stroke, heart disease or respiratory illness.
Kaminski says tomorrow’s event at the Pigeon Park market is just one of 90 clinics being offered in a two week blitz.
