Dexter Fowler #24 of the Chicago Cubs catches a pop up fly hit by Yoenis Cespedes #52 of the New York Mets. He will recieve a base salary of $8 million in 2016, as well as $9 million in 2017 if option is exercised, $5 million if it is bought out.

Outfielder Dexter Fowler agreed to stay with the Chicago Cubs, agreeing to a one-year contract that includes a mutual option for 2017. The deal is worth about $35 million, as reported by Buster Olney of ESPN.
Although the off season has come to a close with pitchers and catchers reporting throughout the sport, that has not stopped the Baltimore Orioles from making moves.
Baltimore’s medical staff has a history of being pretty stingy, and the Orioles just restructured a newly agreed-upon contract with Yovani Gallardo to save a few million dollars after team doctors expressed concerns over his shoulder.
Fowler, 29, was disadvantaged by the number of strong outfield options available on this year’s free-agent market, with Jason Heyward, Yoenis Cespedes, Justin Upton and Alex Gordon all signing with clubs looking for outfield help.
With Fowler back in the fold, the Cubs’ outfield situation certainly becomes more interesting.
In 156 games with the Cubs last season, Fowler hit 17 home runs and drove in 46 RBI while stealing 20 bases.
Instead, they will augment a Cubs lineup that, 1 through 8, figures to be the most potent in the major leagues.
The versatile Coghlan, 30, batted. 250 with 25 doubles, 16 home runs and 41 RBIs in 148 games for the Cubs last season.

The Orioles have Nolan Reimold, Adam Jones and Dariel Alvarez slated as the current starting outfielder.
