Springfield Fire Department kicks off huge fire safety campaign

Having a working smoke alarm cuts the chances of dying in a reported fire in half.

The primary point in the association’s message is that every house needs to have not one, but several fire alarms throughout the structure in order to maintain maximum safety. They’ll be teaching them about meeting spots in case of a fire and calling 911. Alberta Health Services (AHS) owes volunteer fire departments in rural areas an insurmountable amount of gratitude for the services they provide, because without ’em – rural Lethbridge County would be up Shitt’s Creek, so to speak. Smith, dressed as Sparky the dog, was at Park Hills Elementary School in the South Western School District for Fire Prevention Week. “The biggest goal is to keep people safe”.

They usually happen when there are either no alarms or they’re not working.

The Home Fire Preparedness Campaign is happening all over the country and involves Red Cross workers joining with local fire departments and community groups to visit neighborhoods at high risk for fires.

Founded in 1896, NFPA is a global, nonprofit organization devoted to eliminating death, injury, property and economic loss due to fire, electrical and related hazards. Reno’s interim Fire Marshall Seth Williams says one of the keys to saving lives from house fires is the effective use of smoke alarms.
