Thousands of communities across the United States, including Tucson and Marana, celebrated National Night Out Tuesday evening.

Buffalo Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda says policing the city would be much more hard without the help of the community.

Across the country, this is the 33rd Annual National Night Out, the 14th time that the Carson City Sheriff’s Office has participated.

This year the NCPD will host the event on Broad Street between Pine and Union Streets.

But National Night Out is here to help alleviate that. “It’s safe”, said Romero.

Kennewick, Pasco, Richland and Benton City are all organizing community outreach events this year. The goal is to build relationships between residents and police officers. “We want to improve those, and improve safety in the community, so we can look at each other as friends”.

Police officers will be out visiting multiple communities providing back to school supplies, walking around numerous neighborhoods and talking with the citizens they serve on a daily basis.

The city collaborated with the nonprofit SafetySmart Lilburn for the event.

Tammy Keefer of Dallastown said, “They can help you if you need help and that they’re around if you need them”.

He says because of how some police departments are portrayed, an event like National Night out allows local law enforcement to be viewed in a different light. “There’s no rhyme or reason, there’s no one thing in the uptick we’ve had in the last week”, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross said. All the fun takes place at Columbia Park, located at 600 Columbia Avenue, from 6 p.m.to 9 p.m.
