Sprint Car star Clauson hospitalized after crash in Kansas

Racing in the feature of the annual Belleville Midget Nationals, Clauson was leading the race when his auto made contact with a slower vehicle, flipped several times against the wall and was hit again after coming to rest in the middle of the track.

Bryan Clauson, a Noblesville native, was airlifted to a hospital in Lincoln after being involved in a serious crash during a race Saturday night in Belleville, KS.

The crash happened Saturday night at the Belleville Midget Nationals in Kansas.

After taking the lead, Clauson began to pull away however he was soon wedged between the fence and a vehicle he had just lapped.

Clauson was taken to Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln, Nebraska. USAC has not made any official updates on Clauson’s condition, however, several tweets from those watching the race say he is in critical condition.

His schedule this year was on pace for 200 starts, and that included a 23rd-place finish in the Indianapolis 500.

Saturday night’s race was won by Chad Boat, the son of former midget champion and IndyCar Series driver Billy Boat.

Clauson was a three-time victor and the defending champion at Belleville.

While leading, Clauson climbs the guard rail between turns 3/4. His auto rolled several times and was hit by another vehicle.

He started seventh on Friday night before he was in another vicious wreck.
