Sprint jacks up unlimited data plan prices to $70 per month
What is clear is that that Sprint, overtaken in recent months by T-Mobile as the nation’s third-largest carrier, needs all the help it can get. Beginning October. 16, the $60 Unlimited Plan will increase to $70/month.

And while a price hike, Sprint is quick to highlight that the $70 rate is still less than T-Mobile’s $80 option for a standalone unlimited data plan, while AT&T and Verizon don’t offer unlimited data whatsoever. “Rather than increase the price without warning, we want to give customers one last chance to take advantage of the $60 rate”. The move is a sign of the increasing cost of offering an all-you-can-eat option as more customers rely on their mobile devices.
Current customers need not worry, though.
Mobile data usage is skyrocketing. United States data traffic over wireless networks has increased 947 percent between 2010 and 2014, according to the CTIA wireless trade association.
Earlier, Sprint pursued limiting video download speeds, but has removed such restrictions as customers pushed back. All while on the Sprint network. Competitor plans may include music, other int’l text/data features, data carry over, tethering, upgrade and cloud options.
It’s unclear how the price change will affect overall company costs and the willingness of customers to pay for the data plan.

Sprint also used the announcement to refocus on its continuing iPhone Forever promotion. Additionally, these customers will be able to activate a new phone and remain on the $60 plan as long as they continue to meet the plan requirements.
