Specifically, Sprint Open World offers those roaming in Mexico, Canada, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Paraguay free texting, free calling and 1 free GB of 3G data.

“We’re opening up the world and breaking down borders so more Sprint customers can stay in touch with the people who are important to them”, said Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure in a press release. If you want to make a call to someone outside of Canada and Mexico, rates start at $0.05 per minute to Latin America, the Dominican Republic, and more than 180 other countries.

Sprint is the latest US carrier to make it easier (and cheaper) for customers to communicate with friends and family around the world.

Once users have run out of their free allotment of 1GB data, which doesn’t count against their domestic data allotment, they can pay $30 per GB which will be billed by the MB so if less is consumed users pay less.

For those traveling outside of the Open World countries to Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Sprint offers free texting, along with 20 cent per minute phone calls and data usage at $30 per gigabyte.

With Sprint Open World, you’ll have access to roaming in 34 countries, too.

Both plans have free texting and calling to other North American countries. AT&T has been snapping up Mexican carriers, T-Mobile recently launched Mobile Without Borders, and now Sprint has announced a new worldwide add-on. The add-on comes at no extra cost for new customers and current Simple Choice customers, and just $10 per month for promotional or business customers.
