“Sprint is making it easier for our customers to connect without roaming charges or excessive fees for calls or texts”, Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure said in a statement on Monday.

While T-Mobile has broken down its borders, Sprint is also going down the same path with the launch of its own Sprint Open World plans. Users can place calls and text as much as they can without any additional charges in Mexico, Mexico and a number of Latin American countries under Sprint Open World.

Sprint calls this the Open World plan which supports Mexico, Canada, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Paraguay. Sprint’s Open World, for instance, will charge customers 20 cents a minute for calls to Europe, the Middle East and Asia, with data costing $30 per GB in select countries.

A full 1GB of free data means Sprint customers can send hundreds of photos to friends and family while traveling and can download plenty of songs without ridiculous worldwide data charges. Calls to the Dominican Republic from the US to more than 180 countries start at $0.05 per minute. After the first gigabyte, you’ll need to pony up $30 per gigabyte, billed in megabyte increments. So if you’re a globe-trotter on Sprint, you’ve got to decide if you want cheaper calling and a free gig of 3G data or $0.20 per minute calling and free 2G data.
