The latest carrier to throw its name in the ring is Sprint, which has just launched its new iPhone Forever plan, which lets users upgrade to the latest iPhone any time they want – without having to pay an upfront fee or experience a hike in rates.
To join the “iPhone Forever” plan, new or existing customers can bring in any smartphone and get a 16GB iPhone 6 at the regular leased pricing. If they upgrade after December. 31, that rate goes back up to $22. The new promotion is available with any eligible Sprint rate plan, and future upgrade eligibility is included in the price.
Sprint is introducing the program just as Apple is rumored to be unveiling its next iPhone next month. The $15 price will continue through the end of 2015 until their first upgrade in 2016. It’s also worth noting that while Sprint compares its unlimited plan to T-Mo’s, Sprint charges extra for mobile hotspot ($20 for 2GB or $50 for 6GB) while T-Mobile’s unlimited plan includes 7GB.
A Sprint spokeswoman said the service targets customers interested in always having the latest iPhone. Customers will not need to change their monthly payment and will not need to pay a deposit or fees – and they can keep paying the $15 per month on device costs. On Demand when they traded in their current smartphone, which is lower than similar offers on monthly installment plans. New customers who want the offer can sign up through Labor Day (Sept. 7) in participating T-Mobile stores nationwide.
These new iPhone upgrade plans are gold for Apple.
