Sprint to raise price of unlimited data plan from $60/month to $70/month

As previously mentioned, the new plan doesn’t go in effect until October 16th so if you don’t want to pay $10 extra for unlimited data on the country’s fourth largest mobile carrier you have ample time between now and then to get on the $60 plan.

Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) announced today that it would increase the cost of its unlimited data plan by $10. Between 2010 and 2014, mobile data traffic in the United States increased 947 percent. Other wireless carriers have found it in their best interest to transition customers toward capped plans, and now it looks like Sprint is joining the pack.

At $60/month, Sprint offers the lowest rate among national carriers for an unlimited high-speed data, talk and text plan.

Sprint claimed that the offering is still better than the deals offered by its competitors.

Sprint says current customers on the $60 plan will be able to remain on the plan even after the upgrade “as long as they still meet the plan requirements and are purchasing a phone option and financing option that is compatible with the plan”.

The company is now looking to invest in improving its network and stem losses. He thinks Sprint’s network will become No. 1 or 2 in terms of quality in the next two years. “At $70 a month, Sprint still beats the competition”. The company’s market capitalization is 14.82 billion.

Sprint’s move to increase the price of its unlimited service is noteworthy considering it has worked feverishly to position itself under its new CEO as the “value” provider in the wireless industry.
