The forthcoming hike in the cost of Sprint’s unlimited data plan is an indication of the rising cost entailed by the carrier for offering an all-you-can-eat option to customers, especially in the wake of the customers’ increased dependence on mobile devices.

Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) is planning to increase its unlimited data plan with effect from October 16.

Prices will soon go up $10 a month. “Rather than increase the price without warning, we want to give customers one last chance to take advantage of the $60 rate”.

Sprint is raising the price of its unlimited plan by $10 a month, and it wants you to love it.

Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure has fought to position the company as the absolute cheapest carrier in the market. Overall data traffic increased 947 percent between 2010 and 2014, as CNET pointed out. The company had to re-adjust its speeds to offer unlimited plan customers with at least 22GB of un-throttled high-speed data. Other carriers such as Verizon Communications Inc.

That’s still the best USA deal for that plan, and current customers will be grandfathered in at the $60/month rate. Customers can pay $15 a month for a 16GB iPhone 6s, or pay a $19 monthly charge for a 16GB iPhone 6s Plus by trading in their old smartphones, which have to be in proper working condition. Additionally, these customers will be able to activate a new phone and remain on the $60 plan as long as they continue to meet the plan requirements.
