SPS already follows transgender bathroom law
Sioux City school district’s policies reflect that, so the Obama’s administration’s directive Friday on bathrooms for transgender students won’t lead to changes in the district’s policy, superintendent Paul Gausman said.

The letter was signed by officials from the Departments of Justice (DOJ) and Education. We are compelled to comply with state and federal laws in all circumstances.
“. I don’t have that kind of experience (of discrimination and hatred toward transgender students) where we are, but I feel like in the Midwest, that it’s something people are going to stand up for, even if they don’t now, they will probably come around to later”. A student’s chosen gender identity, says the directive, falls under Title IX, and “a school must not treat a transgender student differently from the way it treats other students of the same gender identity”.
The Obama administration has ordered United States public schools to allow transgender students to use restrooms of their choice by sending a decree.
He believes transgender nondiscrimination encompasses broader issues including housing and employment and has noticed transgender issues gaining sharper focus.
However, the directive, which was sent to all public schools, has already created an uproar among conservatives, who rejected the directive as something that “goes against the values of so many people”. Mississippi Republican Gov. Phil Bryant said Obama’s administration was “forcing its liberal agenda” on states that reject it. “Despite the daily ebb and flow of news topics, our foremost responsibility is to educate and advance the more than 16,000 students who attend our schools”.
A federal directive issued by the Obama administration on Friday protects transgender students against discrimination under Title IX’s mandate that districts can’t discriminate against students based on their sex.
“Well, I think this does underscore the risk of electing a right-wing radio host to elected statewide office”, Earnest said.
Although this progressive action has been controversial, Virginia Schools say allowing students to use the bathroom of the gender they identify with is in the best interest of their students. It comes just days after the Justice Department and the state of North Carolina filed dueling lawsuits over a new law requiring individuals in that state to use bathrooms based on the gender they were assigned at birth.
Some parents voiced displeasure a year ago with the decision to grant access to a males’ bathroom for a transgender student who had previously attended school as a female.

“For the [education] department to force biological males access to girls bathroom and locker rooms violates the privacy of both students and their parents”, said attorney Jocelyn Floyd.
