Spurs ace Dele Alli charged with violent conduct

The ban relates to an incident between Alli and West Brom’s Claudio Yacob during the 26th minute of Monday’s 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur’s slim hopes of winning the Premier League title have been dealt a significant blow this afternoon with news that Dele Alli will miss the final three games of the season.

If found guilty, Alli could face a three-match suspension.

Because Alli accepted the Football Association’s (FA) charge of a three-game suspension, his appeal on whether the punishment was deemed too excessive was ultimately dropped in the end.

The referee Mike Jones did not see the incident, allowing it to be referred to a panel of three former elite referees to decide if it was worthy of retrospective action.

“Sometimes, opponents, they find him, try to provoke him”.

Alli has shone in his debut season at Spurs, scoring 10 league goals and establishing himself in Roy Hodgson’s England squad ahead of this summer’s European Championships.

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger was also banned three games in December after elbowing West Ham’s Winston Reid on a play that was missed by officials but captured on video.

Following the match, Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino said opponents were trying to goad Alli.

I have to say, its nice to see Moussa Dembele get some recognition over the usual Spurs heroes.

Carragher says that Alli was lucky that the referee did not see the incident, but goes on to state that he sees something of a young Wayne Rooney in Alli’s reaction to all the hustling by Yacob.

“He tackled him, he pulled him, he pushed him over, but being 20 years old you just get a little eaten up about it. I don’t think there was anything in it anyway”.
