Spurs can do better, says Mauricio Pochettino

The end of the season could be when Kane leaves White Hart Lane, especially if Mauricio Pochettino’s side fail to qualify for the Champions League, as a player of his calibre will be looking to play in the biggest competitions.

Thankfully that didn’t happen – but it nearly did – with shades of déjà vu coming back, after Jordan Ayew scored off of a fortunate deflection in the 79th minute.

And he will have a chance to add to his current four league strikes when Tottenham host Aston Villa on Monday night.

And of the last 16 players to make their England debuts, nine were coached by Pochettino – from Rickie Lambert at Southampton to Spurs midfielder Dele Alli’s first cap against Estonia last month. The next game is very important, always.

“It’s a good achievement, but to be honest, for me, it [10 matches unbeaten] means nothing because we are ambitious and we want to win the next game”, Pochettino said. We saw big potential in Dele Alli but youngsters have to develop their game and mentality.

The victory extends Tottenham’s unbeaten run to 10 games in the Premier League and takes them up to fifth in the table, five points off the top.

“We need to manage the game better – maybe it’s because we are young”. From the first day of pre-season, he started to show he was capable of playing in the Premier League.

Despite their league position, MacDonald has seen enough quality in the players to turn things around sooner rather than later.

“They have to give us that wow factor very, very soon – and then over an extended period”.

“I can remember times as a player when I played badly”, admitted the 54-year-old.
