Spurs delight Pochettino as Kane ends barren spell

“It’s going to be an unbelievable atmosphere and the lads can not wait to play”, Tottenham striker Harry Kane said, who broke a nine-match goal drought in Tottenham’s 4-0 victory over Stoke on Saturday. They were unbeaten heading into this weekend’s match against Stoke, but had only scored three goals and were generally struggling to create a lot of good chances.

“We have had the experience of the Europa League over the last couple of seasons, and hopefully that will help us in the Champions League to put in some good performances”.

Harry Kane ended a nine-match goal drought as Tottenham cruised to a comfortable win which kept Stoke bottom of the Premier League.

They faced each other in the Europa League group stage last season, Spurs winning 4-1 at home with an Erik Lamela hat-trick having drawn 1-1 in the away tie.

Harry Kane’s goal for Tottenham Hotspur against Stoke City on Saturday took his Premier League goal tally to 50, with his first for his side coming in the 5-1 thrashing of Sunderland back in April 2014.

“For every player, it’s a dream to play in the Champions League”, the 24-year-old said. “But he is more mature and has more experience and he will start to score again”.

The first of four goals in a damaging 29-minute period for Stoke came in the 41st when Son volleyed in Christian Eriksen’s cross to finish off a sweeping counter-attack.

After 20 minutes, referee Taylor waved away appeals for a penalty after Son went down under Geoff Cameron’s challenge after a purposeful run into the box, one of many throughout the match.

Spurs return to the continent’s elite competition on Wednesday when they welcome Monaco to North London, though it will be at Wembley, rather than White Hart Lane, where they entertain clubs in the Champions League this term while they transform their stadium. It was tough for us, but we have worked hard to forget last season and refocus.

A Stoke win or a draw is a saver at 21/10; however, the fact that three of these sides’ last four encounters at the Britannia have topped the 2.5 goals mark makes backing a scored draw appeal 15/4.

“It is one thing is to believe, though, and another to deliver and win games”.

Mauricio Pochettino then prevented further damage from being inflicted as Kane and Eriksen were substituted to keep them fresh ahead of Monaco’s visit to Wembley in midweek. The Welshman is also facing a Football Association reprimand after he was sent to the stands in the first half – a sign that the pressure is already affecting him.
