Spurs deserved more against Arsenal

A Mathieu Flamini goal gives Arsenal a 1-0 lead over local rivals Tottenham Hotspur in their League Cup clash at White Hart Lane.

The ball bounced just in front of Vorm, who could only parry his save straight out where Flamini reacted quickly to sweep it back into the roof of the net before celebrating in front of the home support at the North Stand.

Nacer Chadli of Spurs shoots and gets a deflection off Calum Chambers, unseen, for an own goal equaliser on Wednesday night during their League Cup match at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham thought they had scored early into the second half after Christian Eriksen had a shot off the post, but Harry Kane was well offside when he put in the rebound.

Arsenal have won three of their opening six Premier League games and sit five points behind leaders Manchester City.

“Every single game that you play you want to win but especially this one“, Wenger said.

“Look at Arsenal – they played Ospina and is the result is on the other side, then it would be the same question for Wenger”. “I’ve heard many things in the press, many people have been talking about me, but tonight I’ve proved everyone wrong”.

The Argentine will be hoping Spurs quickly bounce back, but admits they will be missing four midfielders through injury, even if the players in question are recovering well.

“I’m happy for the team and personally”, Flamini said later.

“He is a fighter, Mathieu, and a victor as well”.

“I told him at the start of the season it might be hard for him to be a starter but he decided to stay and he did fight”, the manager admitted.

Arsene Wenger turned to our star of last season Alexis Sanchez and although the Chilean worldwide did not manage to score his first goal of the season, he changed the game with his enthusiasm, direct running, pace, power and fancy footwork. I know that this is THE rivalry game for these two clubs, but nevertheless this was truly an unsophisticated show by the Arsenal supporters and we will have to see how the FA reacts.
