Spurs duo in injury boost

Despite having 31 shots in the match, Spurs had only Harry Kane’s goal following Papy Djilobodji’s error to show for their efforts.

Jamie Redknapp is expecting Tottenham Hotspur to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.

On the injury picked up by Harry Kane, the Argentine said: “we need to assess Harry tomorrow”.

“Maybe he has some problems with his ligaments but it’s hard to assess today to give an opinion”.

Kane netted from close range during the second half but it was a mixed afternoon for the forward after he was stretchered off with a badly-twisted ankle, and it could keep him on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.

The Tottenham manager also believed the rigours of Champions League football and worldwide tournaments are already starting to take their toll, with Mousa Dembele also leaving the field due to cramp.

“When you’re in different competitions, Champions League is a different competition, we spent a lot of energy on Wednesday, it’s different to the Europa League”.

However, Sunderland made an unexpected late change, with Jason Denayer coming in for Patrick van Aanholt moments before kick-off, and the Belgium global was given a tough examination by Son Heung-min on his Premier League debut for the club. It’s new for us so it’s important to learn.

“All our internationals had a hard summer, they played in the Euros, and it’s more hard to get fit”.

Didier Ndong and Jason Denayer made full debuts for Sunderland, although the latter was only included after Moyes lost full-back Patrick van Aanholt during the warm-up.

Sunderland meanwhile are still without a win after five games and David Moyes knows he’s in a dogfight already.

However, with the dismissal of Adnan Januzaj late on, Moyes felt his players fell foul of referee Mike Dean. “He came to see me and said “I need your help”, Pochettino said.

“The second challenge could be a yellow card, but it actually looks worse on TV than it did standing pitchside!”

“Because we were in the game, but we have to be truthful – it was tough”. We should have seen the game off earlier, I felt we dominated from the start.

Still though, it was the three points that Spurs wanted, and three points is what they got. One thing is what the player wants, the other is the club decision.

“We’ve got to start picking up some points, but it’s the start of a long journey”.

“We had a couple of good chances ourselves as well, but it wasn’t to be”.
