Spurs face tough season: Pochettino

Harry Kane scored in successive Premier League games for the time in six months as Tottenham beat Sunderland 1-0 on Sunday to leave the north-east club with only one point from its first five matches. “It was tough, he twisted the ankle”, Pochettino explained.

“I told you that we needed to learn and feel that it is a different competition the Premier League and to share the Champions League, and we need to improve”.

“The most important thing is how you react, and we showed a good reaction”.

“All our internationals had a hard summer, they played in the Euros, and it’s more hard to get fit”.

Pochettino was unable to be drawn on the extent of the injury of the striker, but felt he would not be left short of options following the pre-season signing of Vincent Janssen.

“Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier got cramps in their hamstrings”, said the Argentine, whose side climbed to third place in the Premier League table.

Pochettino had been critical of his side’s energy levels in their defeat to Monaco last week but the Argentinian was satisfied, even if it took a hashed clearance from Djilobodji for Kane to break the deadlock.

The good news is that his ankle isn’t broken, which would’ve resulted in a much longer injury layoff.

Sunderland (0-1-4) refused to change their game plan after falling behind as Spurs continued to control the match.

Lloris said: “We used to say that we have a competitive team and I think we are very confident in every player”.

“Now, in a hard period and a lot of games, you need all the squad”.

He suffered an injured ankle, according to Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, and it’s feared/expected that there’s ligament damage.

“Today we always tried to go forward. When the team needs you need to respond”.

The France goalkeeper said: “It was only the truth”. It starts with working hard in training, which we are doing, we are bonding together and the more we play together the better we will be.

Alli had a dramatic breakthrough campaign last season after making his Tottenham debut against Manchester United in August.

Lloris added: “We can congratulate their keeper (Jordan Pickford), he was fantastic”.
