Spurs feel pace as Pochettino sweats on Kane

Kane scored the only goal of the game in the 59th minute at White Hart Lane before turning his ankle while attempting a sliding tackle on Papy Djilobodji. The only question is how long that run will be. “We hope it’s not a big issue for us”. I am happy for him. “That’s the way we need to play every game, not only some games”.

“When one player is missing it gives an opportunity to another player to bring his skills, his energy, his qualities and his strength”.

“This is the story of the season and that’s why we need all the players involved to be committed to the club because when the manager needs you, you need to respond well”.

“We have a lot of global players”.

The South Korea worldwide was a bundle of energy down the left flank in the opening exchanges, with Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford being forced into a brilliant reaction save at his near post to keep out Kane’s close-range shot after nine minutes.

Kane later suffered an ankle injury.

“We will assess him tomorrow”.

Adnan Januzaj was also sent off but the Lads remained in the game until the final whistle – something they failed to against Everton – and Pienaar believes there were positives to take from the encounter.

One moment summed up the summer signing’s starting point: as yesterday’s game neared its conclusion, Erik Lamela was well-placed for an easy route to goal but the Dutch forward shunned the pass and instead let fly with his left foot.

“I always say to all the players: the truth is on the pitch”.

“He doesn’t lie to his players and it was the case after the Monaco game”.

“We were very disappointed”.

“It’s new for us, and it’s important to learn, and sometimes you are surprised when you make changes”.

“Personally I can’t think of anywhere better, with the fans, the manager we’ve got here and the young team”.

“We’ll see tomorrow how is [Kane’s] ankle”. I think he’s 22.

“Tottenham are a top-quality side, that is why they finished where they did last season”. Every game he has to make more than five saves and mentally you can get exhausted, but he was unbelievable and until the end he made the difference.

“We need to be more clinical”.
