The Punjab senior police officer Salwinder Singh who is been probed by the National Investigating Agency will undergo lie detector test next week in connection to the Pathankot terror attack. The agency claimed the four men dressed in civvies and changed into Army fatigues after they crossed the worldwide border near River Ujj. The case continues to be probed by the Punjab police, while one section in the security establishment fears that the Centre is taking a “soft” approach to the state.

Singh had claimed he was kidnapped from the terrorists to the shrine after his trip and later let-off because they didn’t understand his identification.

Officials at the Ministry of Home Affairs who are closely monitoring the Pathankot attack probe and the development related to it on Thursday made a decision to carry on lie detector test on Singh.

The Gurdaspur SP’s cook Madan Gopal, who was also abducted with him and a jeweller friend of the officer, and Somraj, caretaker of Panj Peer Dargah in Punjab, were also questioned, the spokesperson said, adding they all may be confronted with each other to ascertain the veracity of their statements.

Salwinder Singh had claimed that he was a regular visitor to the shrine and had visited it before he was abducted by the terrorists. The terrorists had killed eight people, including a superintendent of police, before being shot dead in a counter-offensive. The NIA may now urge the government to contemplate invoking the NIA Act to suo motu transfer the case, if glaring evidence points to the same terror outfit being behind both attacks.

Investigators have found some inconsistencies in the statements of Salwinder regarding the events on the night that he was allegedly kidnapped.
