Sri Lanka Cricket have had a number of household names over the years.
Tillakaratne Dilshan has confirmed he will play his final ODI in Dambulla on Sunday, the third of the series against Australia, and his last T20 global in Colombo on September 9. However, Sri Lanka Cricket’s chief executive officer Ashley de Silva said that Dilshan only informed them of retiring from one-day internationals. Smith is expected to have gone to rest and prepare for the upcoming series against South Africa. He scored 22 and 10 in his two outings so far, and the second T20I against Australia in Colombo will be his global swansong.

Dilshan bloomed, but late at the top level. Having batted largely in the lower middle order for nearly a decade, he blossomed in the ODI format, when he was given the opener’s slot in 2009, marking a turning point in his career.
In 2015, Dilshan enjoyed his best year in ODI cricket by scoring 1207 runs at an average of 52.47, including four centuries and six fifties. Dilshan was in prime form over the past two years, averaging 49.18 in the one day format since the start of 2013.
One of the last giants to quit the game following the departure of Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara in recent times, Dilshan will be remembered for his bold batting and useful off-spin bowling. “In the same breath if Smithy needed a break then he should have flown home after the Test matches not 2x ODIs in”, he wrote.
Bidding Adieu to another fine player.
Dilshan invented the shot which is now known as the Dilscoop, which sees a batsman flick the ball over the wicketkeeper’s head, and has been one of Sri Lanka’s most consistent performers in one day global cricket. He has, however, been an effective bowler in the limited-overs format.

Josh Hazlewood returned after playing the first ODI and being left out of the second, but Australia’s selectors also sprung a slight surprise by including John Hastings.
