The 49-year-old is regarded as one of South Africa’s greatest bowlers, having taken 602 wickets at worldwide level.

The legendary former South Africa quick will work with the Australia bowlers in Sri Lanka after Craig McDermott stepped down following the World Twenty20 in India.

CA said Donald, a 72-test veteran who was South Africa’s bowling coach from 2011-15, will take over for Australia’s three-test tour to Sri Lanka.

The appointments of Donald and Law are for the Sri Lanka tour only, with Cricket Australia hoping for permanent appointments by the start of the 2016-17 cricket summer. He went on to coach the national sides of New Zealand and even South Africa.

“I’m really excited about the new challenge”, Donald said in an interview on Cricket Australia’s website. “I’d love to work with Boof [Lehmann] and his team without a shadow of a doubt”, Donald told cricket.com.au. Jason Gillespie, their former fast bowler who is head coach at English county Yorkshire, is a top target. “He brings a wealth of experience with him and our guys will benefit greatly from having him around”, Lehmann added.

Meanwhile, head coach Darren Lehmann believes that Donald, who had previously mentored the likes of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, would be able to bring in fresh perspective into the team in view of his considerable success in sub-continent conditions. “For me as an global cricketer playing against Australia, there was a lot of respect for the way they played their cricket”.

Former Tasmania fast bowler Adam Griffith is the acting bowling coach for that tour.

Law played 54 One-Day Internationals and a Test match for Australia between 1994 and 1999 while he has over 27,000 first-class runs under his belt from 367 matches. Current batting coach Greg Blewett had been excused to spend time with his family, with his second child due to be born during the tour, Cricket Australia said.
